Portland firefighters responded to a garage fire last night on Northeast Liberty Street.
When crews arrived they found flames burning through the roof of a two-car garage.
The owner of the garage was attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the fire burned so hot it melted the siding on the house and paint on a nearby car.
The garage was a total loss and the cause is under investigation.
Portland Fire and Rescue wants to remind residents to not attempt to fight a structure fire, because the fire can weaken a building that could lead to a collapse.
