A Lebanon man seriously injured in a single car crash near Aurora was also involved in a hit-and-run earlier that night, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to a report of a hit-and-run Wednesday night around 9:42 p.m. along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5. On the way there, a single car crash was reported at the Ehlen Road Northeast off-ramp. Troopers were able to confirm that the same driver was involved in both accidents.
An investigation revealed that Vasily Yashchishen, 40, sped off the highway and hit several trees. His pickup reportedly caught fire, but a couple who saw the crash were able to pull him out.
Yashchishen was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. He was not wearing his seatbelt.
Alcohol is being investigated as a factor in this crash.
