The investigation is continuing their into Wednesday night's single car crash on Interstate 5 northbound at the Ehlen Road Northeast exit that seriously injured a Lebanon-area man.
Oregon State Police said they responded to a reported hit-and-run crash along the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 north of Woodburn at about 9:45 Wednesday night.
While heading to the scene to contact the victim, another reported crash involving a single vehicle was reported at the Ehlen Road NE off ramp. Troopers later confirmed this vehicle was the suspect vehicle involved in the earlier hit-and-run crash.
Investigators said a pickup driven by 40-year-old Vasiliy Yaschishen from Lebanon, was northbound at a high rate of speed exiting Interstate 5 near milepost 278 when it continued off Ehlen Road Northeast and struck several trees.
The pickup reportedly caught fire and Yaschishen was pulled out by other motorists who stopped at the scene.
Yashchishen was seriously injured and transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Salem Area Command office and Portland Area Command office responded to the scene. Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in the incident.
OSP was assisted at the scene by the Aurora Fire Department and the Hubbard Police Department.
