MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -
A Milwaukie family woke up to find a stranger hiding inside their home Sunday morning.
Milwaukie police officers responded to the area of Southeast 34th Avenue and Southeast Sellwood Street after reports of a bad crash at 6:13 a.m.
People in the area found a path of destruction that stretched across two blocks.
Officials said the damage was done by a Dodge pickup that crashed into signs and landscaping in the area before crashing into a parked truck.
Police searched for the driver of the pickup but couldn't find him until about an hour later when a homeowner, a few blocks away, found a stranger in their home.
Police said Aaron Stewart Christensen, 31, was responsible for the damage done on 34th Avenue and took off after crashing his pickup.
They said he then found an unlocked back door at a home on Southeast 35th Avenue and walked through the home into the garage where he was hiding.
The family's dog started barking which, alerted the family of the intruder, and that's when they locked Christensen in the garage until police arrived.
Police said Christensen has been in trouble in the past for DUII, reckless driving and careless driving.
Christensen is now facing numerous charges, including DUII and criminal trespass.
