BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Beaverton Police arrested a man after responding to a burglary in progress call.

The homeowner called police after he returned home and found items moved and the back glass door shattered at his house on Chestnut Place in Beaverton Sunday afternoon.

Officers responding to the area noticed a suspicious subject walking near the Bi-Mart store at Western Avenue and Beaverton Hillsdale Highway.

Police say the man was carrying a full duffel bag, was underdressed for rainy weather and appeared to be trying to avoid the police.

The man was contacted by police and after briefly speaking with an officer dropped the bag and took off running.

The officer gave chase and caught the man a short distance away.

The bag the man dropped contained items stolen from the burglary.

The man has been identified as 32-year-old Benjamin Hicks.

Police are investigating whether Hicks acted alone or had assistance in the burglary.

Hicks was booked at the Washington County Jail on burglary charges, and additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
