A 107-year-old home is in a new spot, after crews moved it through a Southeast Portland neighborhood.
Crews moved the historic Montgomery home from SE 26th and Hawthorne to a lot on SE 25th and Madison Monday. The move started early Sunday as crews hoisted the house from its original foundation to move it down the street.
"It just popped right up," Pat Brady with Emmert International said. "She was just ready to go, let's go some place. Put it on dollies, and it's like pulling a red wagon."
Emmert International was hired to move the house to its new lot.
A Portland couple bought the home in October to save it from demolition. They originally bought the lot on Madison to build row houses, but the cost of building was too expensive.
The couple plans to turn the house into six or seven one-bedroom apartments.
