Two weeks ago Monday, high winds ripped part of the roof right off the Izzy's restaurant in Newport. That's why the owner of the business said he's nervous about high winds expected for the Oregon Coast.
Max Alatriste estimates the former storm caused more than $150,000 in damage because in addition to the roof, siding, windows, floors and a deck will have to be replaced.
Izzy's sits on a precarious perch above Agate Beach - a location the owner said gets the brunt of the wind storms.
"It's just we're on the spot that in the summer is the most beautiful, but during this season is the worst spot," Alatriste said.
What's worse, another powerful storm could undo the progress already made - the affected areas of the restaurant still have to dry out before reconstruction can begin.
Alatriste is trying to remain positive and he has help doing so from his loyal customers.
"My guests, they worry about me, I worry about them, so we've built good relationships all these years," said Alatriste. "I'm very happy about that."
He hopes to have repairs complete by the spring.
