SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A man who shot and killed a Salem man before fleeing to Mexico will spend at least 39 years behind bars.

A judge handed down a life sentence Monday to Lorenzo Garcia-Ceja. He pleaded guilty to the murder of Montez Bailey in October and no contest to two attempted murder charges connected to the case.

Garcia-Ceja shot and killed Bailey and wounded two other men in Northgate Park back in 2009.

He fled to Mexico shortly after the attack, according to investigators, where he was arrested and extradited back to Oregon in March.

Garcia-Ceja was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 25 years on the murder charge. He was also sentenced to an additional 14 years for the two attempted murder convictions.
