TRAVELERS REST, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Investigators said Wednesday that autopsies revealed a Travelers Rest woman was shot to death the day before her husband killed himself.
Travelers Rest police said the bodies of 47-year-old Dale Wetzelberger and his wife, 41-year-old Michele, were found about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at their home on Northcliff Way.
Police said they went to the home to perform a welfare check after the couple's 4-year-old son was not picked up from a day care.
Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kent Dill said Michele Wetzelberger was shot three times sometime Monday night, while her husband shot himself sometime Tuesday.
Dill said investigators believe Dale Wetzelberger took the couple's son to day care at the Travelers Rest YMCA before returning home and killing himself. Dill said the boy was likely asleep when his mother was shot.
Police said the child is in the custody of the Department of Social Services. They said officials from that department are speaking with family members regarding the child's care.
