PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 16-year-old student at Jefferson High School was arrested during study hall as part of a gang shooting investigation and charged with attempted murder.

After Malik Overton was placed in handcuffs at the north Portland school at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers said they found a handgun in his coat pocket.

He is accused of being part of a shooting into a home at North Rosa Parks Way and Borthwick Avenue on July 7. Nobody was hurt during the shooting, but the Peninsula Park Community Center and pool were evacuated while police searched for suspects.

Another suspect was arrested on Aug. 2. Teondre Bonner, 20, was arrested at a motel in Lacey, WA in connection with the case. He was extradited to Oregon and remains in the Multnomah County Jail.

Overton is facing charges of attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a gun in a public building. He was taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.

Detectives believe Bonner and Overton were involved in a shootout with other people who have not yet been identified.

If you know anything more about this case, call Detective Mitch Hergert at 503-823-2081.
