LAKE OSWEGO, OR (KPTV) -
A garbage truck erupted in flames in Lake Oswego and the driver got out just before flames engulfed the entire cab.
It happened Thursday on Glenmorrie Drive. Investigators said the driver for Allied Waste Service noticed flames coming from the truck behind the cab.
He quickly set the brake and jumped out. Seconds later, a tire exploded and the fire took over the cab.
When firefighters arrived they immediately called for additional equipment because the fire had grown so large.
They were able to contain it and put it out in around twenty minutes.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a mechanical problem with the truck, according to investigations. The truck is a total loss with the damage estimated to be $200,000.
The road was expected to be shut down for a few hours while crews cleaned up the scene.
