Salvation Army red kettle donations way down

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

People just aren't dropping as much money in The Salvation Army's red kettles around town as they used to.

The Salvation Army said donations are down 45 percent so far this year.

The kettles have brought in more than $286,000 so far, and while that money will support the organization's programs, it's actually only 32 percent of the kettle revenue needed for the entire season.

The holiday fundraising season makes up almost 40 percent of The Salvation Army's budget for the Portland-metro area for the entire year.

The organization anticipates serving 20,000 people in the metro-area this Christmas and the goal is to raise $900,000 through kettle donations.

There are 150 local kettle locations.

You can also donate online at SalvationArmyPortland.org.

You can also start your own online kettle to raise money for The Salvation Army at OnlineRedKettle.org.
