Police: Teen caught with stolen guns, substantial amount of drugs

A disturbance call led to the arrest of a teenage boy who police said had stolen guns and a substantial amount of drugs in his home.

Officers were called out to reports of an argument between a woman and her son on the 9500 block of North Fiske Avenue on Dec. 2.

Police arrived and said the fight was over the 17-year-old's possession of a gun. After a consensual search of the home, officers arrested the boy on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, theft, distribution and possession of marijuana and methamphetamine and possession of cocaine.

"When you put someone in the neighborhood that has guns and drugs, what kind of danger are you putting other people's kids in," said neighbor Shukura Mitchell. "I've never seen him get in any trouble. I've never seen police out here for him before. It's sad because it seems like he's a good kid."

Investigators said a total of six guns were recovered, including a double-barrel shotgun, a pistol grip shotgun, a 9 mm Mac-10 and three .45-caliber semi-automatic handguns. Four of the guns had been reported stolen.

The theft victims maintained and reported the serial numbers of their stolen guns, which helped police determine rightful ownership.

Officers said they also found drugs, holsters, ammunition and cash in the home.
