A man who sped away from deputies, crashed into multiple cars and put a toddler in the hospital was behind bars by Saturday night.
Deputies arrested Leonel Zamora Jr. near the Max tracks off Highway 26 Saturday. The highway was busy with afternoon traffic when Zamora led deputies on a 20-minute chase.
The pursuit ended when Zamora crashed into a small SUV containing a family. A 2-year-old was taken to the hospital as a precaution but will be just fine, according to family members.
The chase began when deputies were investigating a domestic dispute involving Zamora at a Beaverton home Saturday afternoon, according to Sgt. David Thompson. Investigators knew Zamora's license had been suspended, so when a deputy saw him driving he tried to pull him over near the intersection of Canyon and Walker roads.
Zamora crashed into a car before heading north on Highway 217, according toThompson. Twenty minutes later, Zamora crashed into the SUV on Eastbound Highway 26 and jumped out of his car – running across the westbound side of the busy highway.
Zamora was arrested near the Max tracks. He will be in court Monday.
