$900 worth of Christmas trees stolen from church

MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -

Thieves stole nearly three dozen Christmas trees from a local church and now police are trying to track down the culprits.

It happened sometime over the weekend at the Harvest Christian Church on SE 52nd Ave in Milwaukie.

The congregation is small, with an even smaller budget. So every year, they sell Christmas trees to raise money to cover basic expenses and outreach programs.

Church members Jim and Frances Doyle were in charge of tree sales Monday.

When they discovered the thefts, they say they couldn't believe someone would target a church during the holiday season.

"I would say it's a very bad thing to do," said Frances Doyle. "They should never try to do that to a church or to anyone really."

At $30 per tree, the Doyles said they've lost about $900 in profits this season.

If you know anything about the stolen trees, call Milwaukie Police.
