CLACKAMAS, OR (KPTV) -
A woman shopping at the Clackamas mall where two people were killed Tuesday said the rifle-wielding shooter rushed past her before opening fire in the food court.
Kate Dieringer said she and her boyfriend saw the man carrying an assault rifle and wearing a white mask, body armor and gloves.
"He just ran past us. I was just staring at him and he didn't make eye contact with me," Dieringer said.
She said the shooter brushed her boyfriend's shoulder as he headed toward the food court.
"He had dark brown hair and death in his eyes," Dieringer said. "He was very calm and very on track. He knew what he was going to do."
Fifteen seconds later, shots rang out. Clackamas County deputies said two people were killed; some witnesses reported hearing dozens of shots.
"I just froze. I've never experienced anything like this," Dieringer said. "I felt like I was going to throw up or something like that. (It was) just this whole body meltdown."
Dieringer panicked, but said her boyfriend directed her out of the mall as fast as he could. The couple hopped in their car and drove off, leaving the scene.
Many other witnesses shared their perspective of the shooting Tuesday. One said the gunman ran by her car on his way into the mall and dropped "a thing full of bullets."
The shooting left two people dead and a teenage girl injured. The gunman, who has been tentatively identified by the sheriff's office, shot and killed himself, according to the sheriff's office.
