The man who shot and killed two people and then killed himself at the Clackamas Town Center Tuesday graduated from a local high school before attending college in the area.
Jacob Roberts graduated from Oregon City High School in 2008. He spent the three years before that as a student at Milwaukie High School, according to a district representative.
Oregon City High School posted a statement on its website Wednesday saying the news is shocking to those who knew Roberts during his time at the school.
"He was known as a soft spoken and polite young man who was often eager to be helpful," according to the school's statement. "The motive for such a horrific act is likely to remain a mystery to us all."
Teachers and school staff have been encouraged to take the time to talk with students about what happened. School counselors and teachers are on alert for students who may need additional help dealing with the trauma surrounding the shooting.
The Oregon City School District said it is cooperating with the investigation into Tuesday's shooting.
After graduating from Oregon City High School, Roberts attended Clackamas Community College in 2009 and 2010. A CCC spokeswoman said his educational focus was general studies.
