Snow storm makes a mark on the Portland metro area

Many woke up to patches of snow flurries Tuesday morning in the Portland metro area, and the snow just kept falling in some areas as the day went along.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the entire Willamette Valley.

Fox 12 meteorologists expect the storm to pass by early afternoon Monday.

People who live in the higher elevations could see up to three inches.

TriMet has put some busses on snow routes due to the winter weather

TriMet closed some stops due to the winter weather Tuesday morning, including no service on Mount Tabor and Mount Scott due to the snow.

As conditions improved, regular service was restored in some areas.

A number of schools throughout the area started two hours late, while others put buses on snow routes. For a complete list, follow the link to the Fox 12 School Closings site.

Tuesday should bring a lot of snow to the mountains as well.

Fox 12's weather team is calling for a foot of fresh snow on the mountains.

Make sure you bring chains or have traction tires if you are headed up Highway 26 as they are required.
