SEASIDE, OR (KPTV) -
Two sea turtles were rescued on different parts of the Oregon coast on the same day.
A man found one turtle on the shores of Seaside at 10:30 a.m. Monday. He took it to the Seaside Aquarium.
Workers there slowly warmed the hypothermic animal up and said it was reacting well, given the conditions.
"He looks pretty lively as far as hypothermic turtles go," said Keith Chandler with the Seaside Aquarium. "They really are sluggish when they're this cold, so what we're just trying to do is warm him up slowly and get him back going."
Chandler said strong west winds likely forced the animal onto the Oregon beach.
Shortly after that turtle was discovered in Seaside, another one was found on the beach in Gearhart. People in the area say it's rare to find two sea turtles on the Oregon coast in a year, let alone in one day.
The second turtle was also taken to the aquarium to receive treatment for hypothermia.
Both turtles seemed to be responding well and the goal is to get them moved to another larger facility to continue their rehabilitation.
