If you get a call asking for Amber Alert donations, it could be a scam.
Washington State Patrol has received reports from several citizens who got calls soliciting fraudulent donations.
WSP says the callers report the money being raised will go to support Amber Alert, saying 30 percent of the funds go to overhead costs associated with the program. WSP says that the program, which makes people aware of missing and abducted children, does not rely on public donations.
The origin of the calls is still unknown, and WSP says there is not enough information to start an investigation.
They say before donating to any charity, it's important to research the organization.
