Posted: Updated:

A crash on Highway 99W left a car impaled on a trailer that was being pulled by a dump truck Wednesday morning.

Washington County sheriff's deputies said the crash happened at 6:45 a.m. near Garland Road just south of Sherwood.

The car's driver, Sandra Frick, 65, of Newberg, crashed into the back of the utility trailer and then was dragged a short distance. The trailer was loaded with heavy construction equipment.

Firefighters said several feet of the trailer ended up in the passenger compartment of the car and the driver was trapped.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue activated its technical rescue team to respond to the scene and get the woman out.

Due to the location of the crash and the patient's condition, a LifeFlight helicopter was called out. Frick was rushed to Oregon Health & Science University with life-threatening injuries.

Oregon State Police said she is in critical condition.

The northbound lanes of Highway 99W were closed for more than one hour to allow for a police investigation.

The dump truck driver, Robert Long, 65, of Newberg, was not hurt. Police haven't identified the driver of the car.

Troopers are continuing to investigate.
