Portland display named a top place for Christmas lights

Posted: Updated:

A Portland race track has been named one of the 10 best places in the country to see Christmas lights.

USA Today compiled the list and posted the results online before a story runs in the national newspaper on Friday.

The Jubitz Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show at Portland International Raceway was named one of the great places to see Christmas lights.

"This is the one time of year when nobody's speeding on Portland's race track," the article states. "Instead, holiday drivers crawl along the speedway for what's billed as the largest light show west of the Mississippi."

Winter Wonderland organizers said nearly 100,000 people tour the show each year. Since 1993, the event has collected more than 38 tons of food for local food banks and contributed more than $525,000 to local charities.

The holiday light show at PIR runs daily through Christmas. New this year is a 200-foot tunnel of lights.
