Toll agreement approved for Columbia River Crossing bridge

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Drivers crossing the border between Oregon and Washington on Interstate 5 will eventually pay a toll.

The Oregon Transportation Commission unanimously approved an interstate tolling agreement Wednesday with the Washington State Transportation Commission regarding the Columbia River Crossing Transit Project.

The Washington board approved it last week.

The intergovernmental agreement was developed over the past few months. Now, the two commissions will create a subcommittee to determine toll-setting details, including the rates. The toll price will require a majority vote of each commission.

You can read the tolling agreement on the Oregon Transportation Commission website.

A PEMCO Insurance poll released last month found that a majority of drivers who use I-5 to cross the border would use Interstate 205 instead if a toll was implemented on the new bridge.
