Family gets home through Habitat for Humanity

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A family from Southeast Portland is celebrating the holiday in the comfort of their brand new home, thanks to some hard-working volunteers.

Habitat for Humanity recently completed work on a home for the Lund family. Keeley Lund, 18, was born with Rett Syndrome, a neuro-developmental disorder that affects her mobility and speech.

The disorder left her confined to a wheelchair, which proved to be difficult to maneuver in the family's small apartment. With the wheelchair unable to fit through the front door, Keeley relied on her family to carry her around.

This fall, Keeley's mother, Ann, purchased a wheelchair-accessible home from Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East. The house is also equipped with a special lift and bathtub for Keeley.

The Lund family has worked with Habitat for Humanity in the past, logging more than 500 hours with the charity.
