KEIZER, OR (KPTV) -

A Keizer woman's Chihuahua woke her up as a fire began to spread through her mobile home.

It happened at 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rainbow Gardens Mobile Home Park on Chemawa Road.

Firefighters said the home had a smoke alarm, but it was not working. The little dog named Lily started barking and the 63-year-old woman and her pet were able to get out safely.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and prevented the fire from spreading to any neighboring homes. The mobile home sustained extensive smoke damage and is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire appears to be an overloaded extension cord, according to investigators.

Firefighters said the woman had let her fire insurance lapse two months prior to the fire.

Firefighters did manage to save some family mementos from the home. The woman was treated for minor smoke inhalation and is staying with family members for now.
