HOOD RIVER, OR (KPTV) -

A 20-year-old man from West Linn died in a two-car crash on Highway 35 near Mount Hood on Sunday.

State police said 19-year-old Dayne Scanlon lost control of his Subaru station wagon while heading north on Highway 35, then slid sideways on the snow-covered road into the southbound lane. That's when a second car, driven by 44-year-old Duncan McPhail, crashed into the passenger side, killing the male passenger inside the northbound car.

State police identified the victim as Drake Edwards.

A doctor and members of the Mt. Hood Meadows ski patrol were at the scene to provide emergency medical care to Edwards, but they were unable to save him.

Scanlon, McPhail and two other people in the cars involved in the crash did not suffer any injuries. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, police said.

The collision happened around 2:30 p.m. about two miles north of Highway 26.

Police closed a lane of the highway to allow for an investigation.
