Family and friends of a missing Portland father will be back out searching for him Thursday morning.

The Portland Police Bureau's Missing Persons Unit also continues to search for 29-year-old Matthew McConnell-Hegland, who vanished Saturday.

Family members said McConnell-Hegland left work Friday and said he was headed to the Twilight Room to meet friends, but he never came home.

His family said he crashed at a friend's house that night, but was gone the next morning. He sent a strange text message to his wife early Saturday, but there hasn't been any communication from him since.

"We love him so much and his kids miss him and his wife misses him," said Amy Gilkey, McConnell-Hegland's sister-in-law. "We're really asking for his safe return, and hopefully, that will happen very soon."

Police said he may be suffering from a mental health crisis. He was last seen wearing beige pants, a green polo shirt and black jacket. Anybody who sees him is asked to call 911.

Friends and family plan to search the north end of Pier Park on North Columbia Boulevard on Thursday.

Anyone with non-emergency information about McConnell-Hegland's disappearance is asked to contact Detective Mike Weinstein at 503-823-0446.
