With President Barack Obama promising gun law reforms, folks are heading to stores to stock up boxes of bullets and shotgun shells.
Some stores are even limiting how many boxes of ammunition that customers can buy at one time.
This comes as the Newtown elementary school shooting is spurring gun sales. Click here to read more.
A Brownell Inc. official said it sold 3 1/2 years worth of certain magazines in 72 hours. Click here to read more about what a company official wrote on a blog about the soaring sales.
UT Arms in KCK is busy with both gun and ammunition sales. Some fear a ban on assault rifle sales or the ammunition to arm them. As a result, sales of AR-15 rifles and .233-caliber bullets are going fast.
Owner Chad Coad admits he is having a hard time keeping up with demand with many wanting to buy cases.
"We're actually limiting what individuals can buy," he said. "We've limited people on certain ammo where they can only buy five boxes at a time."
Robert Davis bought ammunition at UT Arms, but wish he could have bought more.
"I have been driving all around the city and there's nothing out there. These guys are the first ones I've come across that have it," he said referring to the .233 caliber bullets, which can be used in semi-automatic guns and hunting rifles.
UT Arms, like many retailers, is sold out of 30-round magazines.
U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat from Missouri, said she expects Congress to take up gun legislation soon, particularly focused on ammunition clips and assault rifles.
"Surely our country is great enough, surely we are strong enough, to do what we can without impeding people's Second Amendment rights, to stop the massacre of innocent children in schoolrooms," she said.
She talked about her father who was as an avid sportsman.
"I don't ever recall him needing a clip that had multiples of bullets in them. I do not recall him needing guns that hat are designed for killing people in war," she said, adding that Congress needs to provide funding for community health program.
