PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The owner of the Thunderbird hotel property in Jantzen Beach is hoping to convert the space into a 126,000-square-foot retail building.
City officials confirm they received a permit application for a one-story retail building for a future tenant at the site of the September five-alarm fire.
The city has just started the review process and usually issues a reply in about 20 days. If there are any issues that need to be reviewed, the property owner will have an opportunity to make any changes, which are then re-reviewed by the city. That could result in another 30 to 45 days before there's a final answer on the property.
A week ago, Crime Stoppers announced a $1,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest in the case of the Sept. 2 fire at the vacant hotel.
The hotel was a total loss with damages estimated at $17 million.
No potential suspect information has been released.
