FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

Investigators have wrapped up their investigation into a Forest Grove house fire that broke out on Christmas Eve.

They determined the fire started near a small 2- or 3-foot-tall Christmas tree that was set up in the kitchen.

At this time, the exact cause is undetermined due to extensive damage.

However, investigators said Christmas lights on the tree or a candle they were told was blown out may have sparked the fire.

FOX 12 also learned that the tree had not been watered for at least a week.

The fire ignited around 8:30 Monday morning at a house in the 2300 block of SW Dilley Road.

When crews arrived, they found large amounts of smoke pouring out of the building.

Fire crews entered the back of the home and were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

Firefighters stayed at the scene for a few hours, putting out hot spots.

There is heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the home, and heavy fire damage in the kitchen.

The fire is estimated to have caused $90,000 in damage.
