A car lost control and caused a deadly three-car crash in Brush Prairie.

It happened at 7 p.m. Monday on the Salmon Creek Bridge in the 16300 block of State Route 503. Investigators said a car hit a patch of ice and slid across the center line as it headed south on the bridge and slammed head-on into an SUV.

The driver of the SUV was killed. She was identified late Monday night as Jennifer Swartz, 33, of Battle Ground. Her passenger, Peter Swartz, 32, was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the first car, a 17-year-old girl, was taken to Peace Health Southwest Washington Medical Center with injuries. Her two passengers, ages 16 and 17, were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

All the injuries are considered serious to life-threatening.

Investigators said a third car was involved in the crash, hitting the undercarriage of the SUV after it was sent into the air. No one in the third car was hurt, according to police.

A total of 14 firefighters with four engines from three agencies responded to the scene, along with four AMR ambulances.

SR-503 was closed in the area for several hours while emergency crews were at the scene. Police said criminal charges are pending the results of their investigation.
