Fire damages SE Portland home

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A fire damaged a home near the intersection of Southeast 97th and Holgate.

An off-duty firefighter called the fire in after seeing black smoke coming from the house at 10:30 a.m.

Even though the house was considered vacant, there were two adults inside. The firefighter and bystanders helped them out through a window. They were taken to a hospital for evaluation. No one else was inside the house.

A fire truck arrived and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Damage is estimated at $45,000 but the cause is still under investigation.
