PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man who was suffering from a possible drug overdose allegedly bit a firefighter in the leg Wednesday night, police said.

Portland police officers responded to the 5800 block of Southeast Ogden Street just before 7:30 p.m.

Firefighters and paramedics had already arrived to look into a report of a barely conscious man suffering from alcohol poisoning and a possible drug overdose. They began to treat the 19-year-old, who responded by biting a firefighter in the leg, police said.

When firefighters started to walk toward the front door of the home to get police assistance, 36-year-old Jeremy Coffin ashut and locked the door and wouldn't let anyone leave, according to police.

Coffin, who police said was verbally abusive to the firefighters, then unlocked the door, and firefighters exited the home to wait for the police officers' arrival.

Coffin was arrested on a charge of interfering with a firefighter.

The 19-year-old was taken to a Portland hospital to be treated for alcohol poisoning and a possible drug overdose.

The case against the patient will be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review of possible criminal charges.
