String of car prowls reported in West Linn

WEST LINN, OR (KPTV) -

Several car owners in West Linn woke up to the sight of shattered windows and stolen items, after police said there was a string of overnight car prowls.

West Linn police said it all happened on several streets off of Rosemont Road on Wednesday night and in each case numerous items were stolen.

Broken glass and a stolen bag is what David Odell woke up to on Thursday morning outside his West Linn home.

"I knew with the window was busted out and my bag would certainly be gone," said Odell.

Odell said the culprit grabbed the bag he kept on the front seat of his SUV.

That bag contained all of his personal belongings along with about $250 in cash.

"Not only did they get what was in the bag but they used one of the cards and got a full tank of gas," said Odell.

He wasn't alone.

Around West Linn, policed reported getting six other cases of car prowls overnight.

The piles of broken glass could be spotted where cars were once parked.

"I think it's really surprising, we don't get a whole lot of crime here in West Linn and people are probably fairly complacent and leave things in your car," said Melissa Cooper, who's lived in the area for the last four years.

Many who live in West Linn said they don't expect this to happen here.

Odell admits he shouldn't have left anything his car and said he's learned his lesson the hard way.

"I was raised and taught that if it isn't yours, you don't touch it. I think times have changed," said Odell.

Police advise people in the area to remove all valuables from their cars and lock their doors.

They ask residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 503-635-0238

So far, no arrests have been made and there isn't any suspect information.

If you have details about this case you should call West Linn police.
