NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -
A leaning tree that poses a threat to drivers below is about to come down on the Oregon coast.
Highway 101 at Newport will be closed in both directions Friday afternoon to allow an Oregon Department of Transportation contractor to remove the tree.
It's located near the south end of the Yaquina Bay Bridge at Milepost 142.
The tree is at least 12 inches in diameter and 50 feet tall and it's leaning right toward the road.
A second slightly smaller tree is entangled with it, as well.
The closure will begin at 2 p.m. and is expected to last 20 minutes while crews bring the tree down and remove the debris from the highway.
