Kids in Facebook video not responsible for major Salem fire

SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A three-alarm fire that ripped through a Salem strip mall was not started by kids who posted a video of it on Facebook.

Detectives interviewed the juveniles and it was determined they had no involvement in starting the fire late Monday night on the 1000 block of Lancaster Drive Northeast.

The video shows one of them saying: "I went in there and I threw a firework. I thought it was just going to be a harmless joke."

No one was hurt, but four businesses were destroyed.

Investigators from the Salem Police Department, Oregon State Police, Salem Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms concluded processing the scene Friday, but the investigation will continue.

If you know anything about this case, call police at 503-588-6050.
