A man was transported to Emanuel Hospital with burns on his back after a recliner caught on fire inside an apartment.
Clackamas County fire crews responded to the Watkins Park Apartments at 16751 SE 82nd Dr. just before 5 a.m. Sunday.
Firefighters entered an apartment to find a lot of black smoke. The fire was located and quickly doused.
The victim tells Fox 12 that he was helping to move the burning chair out of the apartment when it started to fall on an older woman. That's when he said he stepped in and ended up getting burned by the chair.
The patient was treated and then transported to the hospital, where he found he suffered second-degree, superficial burns to his back.
No one else was hurt.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
