Posted: Updated:

Two women died Sunday morning when the van they were traveling in was struck by a fishtailing flatbed trailer along Highway 101 about 2 miles north of Waldport.

According to Lieutenant Justin McGladrey, a pickup pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with a Polaris off-road vehicle was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 152 when the trailer began to fishtail side to side.

The trailer disengaged from the pickup and entered the northbound lane of the highway, where it collided into the driver side of a northbound van occupied by two women. Upon impact, the Polaris came off the trailer and struck the van.

The two adult women in the van were pronounced deceased at the scene. They are identified as driver Suzanne Aiken, 69, and her mother, Loise Raether, 94, both from Yachats.

The truck was driven by 23-year-old Spencer Foley from Toledo. His passengers, 23-year-old Bobbi Foley and their 2-year-old son were not injured.

All occupants of both cars were using safety restraints and the van's airbags deployed.

An investigation into the crash is being lead by Trooper Brett Danner. Oregon State Police are being assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, the Lincoln County District Attorney's Office, the Lincoln County Medical Examiner, Central Coast Fire & Rescue, Seal Rock Fire & Rescue, the Oregon Department of Transportation and PacWest Ambulance.
