Search for missing Portland man expands nationwide

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The search for a missing Portland man last seen just before Christmas has expended around the country.

Matthew McConnell-Hegland, 29, went out to the Twilight Room in north Portland to celebrate a friend's birthday Dec. 21. Police said he went home with another friend to the Pier Park Apartments in the St. Johns area.

He was last seen sleeping on the living room couch in the early morning hours of Dec. 22. McConnell-Hegland was gone when the friend woke up and has not been seen or heard from since, according to police.

Concern grew amongst his friends and family when he did not return home and especially when he did not see his children on Christmas.

Detectives have interviewed people close to him, as well as neighbors, and have received numerous tips from all over the Pacific Northwest. So far, nothing has panned out in the search for McConnell-Hegland.

Detectives are expanding their search nationwide, with all points bulletins distributed to all law enforcement agencies throughout the U.S.

McConnell-Hegland is a white man, 6' tall and 180 pounds with receding brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a tattoo of a black, filled-in, five-point star on his upper right arm.

If you've seen him or know where his, call Portland police at 503-823-0446.
