HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -
More than 700 wrestlers hit the mats for a local tournament in honor of a Portland police officer killed in 2008.
The fourth-annual Z-Man Wrestling Tournament took place over the weekend at Liberty High School in Hillsboro.
The national-level tournament featured around 700 wrestlers. Legendary Peninsula wrestling coach Roy Pittman addressed the wrestlers and spectators to emphasize the theme of the day: "Cops, kids and community making a difference together."
Dozens of uniformed police officers, firefighters and National Guard soldiers volunteered their time at the event.
The tournament is named after Mark Zylawy, who was killed while off-duty in January 2008.
After his death, friends and fellow officers created the Z-Man Scholarship Foundation for students who show a commitment to community involvement.
