MOLALLA, OR (KPTV) -

Someone broke into an Army sergeant's car and took it for a joyride in Molalla.

Police said it happened Friday night during a string of car break-ins in the Big Meadow neighborhood.

Sgt. Anthony McCalister's car was recovered about 10 miles away from where he had parked it. He didn't notice it was gone until he went to leave for work Saturday morning.

He bought the new car just a few weeks ago.

McCalister said he looked around and realized he wasn't the only victim. His family's jeep was also broken into and his daughter's purse was stolen.

The spare keys to his new car were in that purse.

"I encourage people to just keep an eye out in their neighborhood for suspicious people walking around at different hours," McCalister said. "Hopefully, they catch them."

His car was found Sunday night and returned with some damages. The crooks stole his floor mats and a toolbox in the trunk.

If you know anything about this case, call Molalla police.
