PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man accused of murder for a downtown nightclub shooting on New Year's 2011 has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Kevin Moffett pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday. The other two remaining charges against him will be dismissed as part of his sentencing set for Jan. 16.

He was to face trial Jan. 14.

Moffett was arrested after a man was shot and killed outside Club 915 on Southwest Second Avenue at 1:30 a.m. on New Year's Day 2011.

Investigators said a fight broke out and club bouncer Ruben Mata, along with other employees, escorted a group of people outside.

When an officer arrived at the scene, he heard gunshots and found Mata on the ground. He was rushed to the hospital and later died.

An officer fired a shot as the situation unfolded, but no one was hit by his gunfire.

Hundreds of people poured into the street at the time of the shooting.
