Gold miner discovers remains of woman last seen in 2005

CENTRAL POINT, OR (KPTV) -

A man mining for gold discovered the body of a woman last seen in 2005 in Central Point.

The gold miner made the discovery Jan. 5 in a remote location only accessible by foot.

Deputies Wednesday confirmed the remains are those of Rachel Rice, who was 46 when she was last seen walking on Old Stage Road near Military Road on Aug. 3, 2005.

The medical examiner confirmed her identity through dental records. A formal autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
