PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The Oregon Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing will continue to protect the Pacific Northwest now that a 50-year lease by the Port of Portland Commission has been approved.
The Guard uses Portland International Airport as a home base and safeguards the area from northern California to the Canadian border.
Sen. Ron Wyden says the deal will keep 1,500 jobs in Oregon. The military will pay $368,000 each year to use the runways and another $60,000 toward maintenance of the airport.
