Highway 26 closed overnight between zoo and tunnel

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Highway 26 between the Oregon Zoo and Vista Ridge Tunnel will be completely shut down to all traffic starting at 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The closure will allow crews to install a sign bridge.

Double lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday. The onramps from Jefferson and Clay to the highway westbound will be detoured to Burnside. Traffic on the highway will be detoured to Interstate 5 and Highway 217 during the closure.

The highway is expected to reopen at 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Drivers can also expect occasional nighttime single lane closures in both directions starting at 8 p.m. each night through 5:30 a.m. the following morning.

There will also be intermittent ramp closures on Jefferson Street and at the Oregon Zoo for electrical work. Closures are expected to be from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays and 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekends. Signed detours will be in place.

It's all part of the Oregon Department of Transportation's project to pave Highway 26 from Sylvan to Interstate 405, upgrade signs and supports, add new lighting and a new ramp meter at the zoo.
