PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A Portland urban farmer woke up to an enormous egg that his chicken had laid.
Bob Spiker Jr. of Spiker Farms found an egg that is more than 5 ounces. He said the egg could hold the record for the largest egg produced in Oregon.
Spiker said he couldn't believe his eyes when he first saw the egg.
"It totally was shocking. There was no anticipation, no anything other than the shock itself of someone's ribbing us, someone's playing a joke on us," Spiker said.
He examined the egg, and determined it was, in fact, the real deal. After doing his own research, he believes he may have a record-breaking egg.
Spiker said the secret to a great egg is paying very close attention to each individual chicken's diet and giving them plenty of space to move around and relax.
"We figured out what they like, we give them a good variety of vegetables and proteins and just your good old granules," he said.
