PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A chimney fire quickly spread into the attic of a southeast Portland home Sunday afternoon.

Portland firefighters were called out to the home on the 2300 block of Southeast 137th Avenue at about3:45 p.m.

Once fire crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters gained access to the roof to cut a hole in home to start the ventilation process.

Crews were able to get the fire out and keep it contained to the attic.

Everyone was able to get out of the home and no was injured.

Portland Fire and Rescue wants to remind homeowners to have their chimney cleaned out at least once a year.

Officials said it only takes a small accumulation of creosote glazing to create a potential chimney fire.
