PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 26-year-old man is in jail tonight after police said he attacked a bartender and stole hundreds of dollars from a southeast Portland bar.

It happened at 10 a.m. Monday at Mama Son's Lounge on SE 125th and Division and it was all caught on surveillance video.

Bartender Rebecca Thompson told FOX 12 she was just starting her day when a young man in a hooded sweatshirt walked in and asked to use the restroom.

She said yes and then moments later, the man ran behind the bar, grabbed Thompson by the neck and pushed her down.

Before she could get up, police said the robber cleaned out the cash register and left the bar on foot.

Thompson then chased after him, saying instinct just kicked in.

"I don't know why I did it," Thompson said. "But I had money in my hand when we were struggling still and I wasn't going to let go of it."

The suspect got away from Thompson and he was missing for a while, but police said they eventually found Paul Henry Grice hiding in the bathroom of a nearby stamp store.

Grice was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on one count of robbery.
