EUGENE, OR (KPTV) -

News of coach Chip Kelly leaving the University of Oregon, spread quickly around campus and town.

"I think it's a very sad day for all of the Duck fans here at the U.O.," said Chelsea Hutchinson, a U.O. student.

Many students we spoke to were surprised by Wednesday's news, pointing to what Kelly told the university less than two weeks ago; when he said he was staying.

"I think he raised a lot of hope by doing that and now it feels like we might be betrayed a little bit. I kind of wish he wouldn't have said that if it wasn't true," added Hutchinson.

"It was going to happen soon or later, might as well happen now," said Adrian Butera-Smith, a student at the U.O.

Despite the move to Philadelphia, many Oregon fans said Kelly made a huge impact on the football team and the university as a whole.

"I'm sad as an Oregon fan but it's good for him, I think the Eagles are a great fit. He left Oregon better than he found it," said Kyle Brown, a student at the U.O.

Many called Kelly an inspiration and a great leader.

Many of his supports said it will be difficult to find someone to replace him.

Despite the change within the U.O. Football program, many are now preparing for the next chapter in Ducks football.
