PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
The man who killed a bouncer at a downtown Portland club two years ago will spend the next decade in prison.
A judge sentenced Kevin Moffett to 11 years for manslaughter. Moffett was first charged with murder but plead to the lesser charge last week. Moffett shot and killed Ruben Mata during a fight outside Club 915.
In court this afternoon, Mata's brother told the court he didn't think the sentence was long enough. But Moffett's family felt it was fair.
"Contrary to what was previously reported in the media, Kevin was not a gang member. He's not a monster," said Grinnell Griffin, Moffett's aunt.
Prosecutors said there probably wasn't enough evidence to get a murder conviction in the case. With credit for time served, Moffett will likely spend 10 years in prison.
